This confession stopped us in our tracks.

What started as a deeply painful personal story quickly became something much bigger. It struck a nerve across South Africa, going viral as thousands of people expressed heartbreak, anger, and a desire to help.

Within days, we launched a BackaBuddy campaign — and in just 3 days, the confessions community raised R60,000.

Instead of focusing on one story alone, we chose to turn the moment into meaningful action. The funds were donated to MamaFlo, a Cape Town–based organisation fighting period poverty and the stigma surrounding menstruation.

The money was used to:
  • Donate sanitary products (both reusable and single-use)
  • Host educational workshops
  • Teach both women and men about periods - how they work, why access matters, and why they should never be a source of shame

To push the conversation further, we encouraged our audience to share their “first period” stories - breaking silence, normalising the experience, and challenging the stigma that still exists around menstruation.

This wasn’t just a confession. It was proof of what can happen when a community chooses empathy over judgement - and action over silence.

Thank you Confessions family 💛
